Squirrels in a Chinar Tree

Abu'l Hasan was Mughal court painter under Emperor Jahangir. He signed and dated a folio of squirrels in a chinar tree around 1610. Half of the painting is squirrels — an entire family of them scattered through the branches. In the lower half, a small figure of a boy is climbing the tree to catch one. Jahangir gave Abu'l Hasan the title 'Nadir al-Zaman' — Wonder of the Age. Now at the British Library, London. Now at British Library, London @britishlibrary
