Adoration of the Magi

Botticelli's Adoration was commissioned for a Medici chapel in Santa Maria Novella. The three kings and their retinue are Medici family portraits — Cosimo il Vecchio as the eldest king, his sons and grandsons around him. And at the far right, in a yellow-golden cloak, standing apart from the crowd, staring straight out at the viewer: a young man. It is Botticelli himself.
